There are various kind of wastewater treatment method though, this article is about coagulating sedimentation. This is a method which is based on flocculation treatment.
|■ Coagulating sedimentation method|
This is a method to add inorganic flocculant (inorganic coagulant) or polymer flocculant into small particles such as colloidal particles in wastewater, and to separate the particles from water by generating flocs and settling them down. The settled sludge, which is also called settled post-coagulation sludge, is disposed after condensation and dehydration processes.
In this method, amount of flocculant can be kept less and efficiency can be increased by using biological treatment or activated sludge method together, therefore, combined facilities are often used. Sludge discharged from the combined facilities is mixed sludge of waste sludge and settled post-coagulation sludge.
Drying process of the settled post-coagulation sludge is difficult since flocs are generated by flocculant and conducting heat to inner part of large particles is a hard task. By crushing and cutting during drying process, the flocs are made smaller and drying process is done thoroughly by conducting heat inside.

Water in the sludge thickened in the sludge thickener tank are removed at dehydration process to a certain degree.
However, moisture content is normally more than 80% and the sludge still has adhesiveness and stickiness. Also, latter processes are not easy because of influence of flocculants.
