There are a lot of kinds of dehydrator for sludge arises from wastewater treatment plants. Among them, belt press dehydrator holds sludge in between two filtering clothes and dehydrates by squeezing and filtering it.
 

■ Belt press dehydrator

 

Belt press dehydrator has a structure in which two filtering cloth hold sludge in between them and moves forward by going through many rollers. Sludge generated during wastewater treatment is conditioned by flocculants and shaped as floc after being condensed. Sludge in floc shape are injected in between two filtering clothes and tightened, then moved forward by keeping that state. Sludge between the filtering clothed is dehydrated by being squeezed and filtered while it passes through rollers which are set in various positions. Dehydrated sludge cake is peeled off by scraper and discharged when the two filtering clothes leave each other. After the dehydrated cakes are peeled off, the filtering clothes are cleaned by pressured water, then holds sludge again and re-enters to the dehydration process.
As flocculants, polymer flocculation for one-pack type and inorganic plus polymer flocculation for two-pack type are used.

■ Sludge drying

 

Water in the sludge thickened in the sludge thickener tank are removed at dehydration process to a certain degree.
However, moisture content is normally more than 80% and the sludge still has adhesiveness and stickiness. Also, latter processes are not easy because of influence of flocculants.
