There are two main types of sludge arise from wastewater treatment plants which are organic sludge and inorganic sludge though, ways of the sludge containing water differ depending on sludge types and wastewater treatment processes.
There are mainly 4 types of conditions about water inside sludge. Dehydration and drying process is affected by the condition of water and how water is kept in sludge, and treatment method need to be chosen appropriately for each case.

Because of flocculants used in dehydration process of wastewater treatment, sludge particles forms flocs and sludge often become states of “water inside particle”.  To dry sludge particles in such state, crashing and shearing is very effective. By crashing sludge particles, heat can reach to inside and more water in sludge can be evaporated.
